Tyron Woodley had the whole MMA world behind him when he took on Jake Paul in August, but the former UFC welterweight champion lost a split decision.
There was a moment in the fight, though, where Woodley had Paul stunned against the ropes. Had the ropes not been there to hold him up, the YouTuber-turned professional boxer would have almost certainly been knocked down for the first time in his career.
Woodley didn’t really apply the pressure when he had Paul hurt like many hoped he would but Conor McGregor training partner, Dillion Danis, has suggested Woodley wasn’t contractually allowed to knock Paul out.
Appearing on The MMA Hour, he claimed: “Tyron Woodley, from what I heard, had it in the contract that he was not allowed to knock out Jake Paul.
“I swear on anything he was against the ropes, I swear, that’s why when Jake Paul was against the ropes, Tyron Woodley didn’t hit him.
“I’m telling you right now. It was in his contract where it said you’re not allowed to knock him out.”
While Woodley didn’t go for the kill like many fans expected and/or hoped, that doesn’t seem like something one could write into a contract for a professional boxing fight.
Paul picked up the victory and moved to 4-0 with three knockouts to his name. Woodley has been campaigning hard for a rematch, so much so that he got ‘I love Jake Paul’ tattooed on his middle finger – an apparent forfeit for losing.
Paul doesn’t believe it is legitimate.
Speaking to talkSPORT he said he believes the former UFC man found a loophole which would allow him to easily change it.
The Problem Child will officially fight Tommy Fury next on December 18 in Tampa, Florida.
It will be an eight-round fight at a 192lbs catchweight, as the YouTuber and former Love Island star go head-to-head.
The duo will meet at their first media event on November 6 in Vegas with a second in Tampa on November 8.
