World Thrift Day observed in Bishnupur

Bishnupur, October 30 2021: In association with Bishnupur district administration and Bishnupur Zilla Parishad, Directorate of Small SavIngs of the Finance Department observed World Thrift Day at Panchayat Resource Centre, Bishnupur on Saturday.
Bishnupur DC RanjanYumnam attended the event as chief guest while Small Savings Manipur director Rojendrakar Nongthombam and Zilla Parishad CEO RK Dayananda were president and guest of honour respectively.
Pradhans and ZP members and IPPB officials also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjan Yumnam noted that people of Manipur lack saving habit and culture and stressed the need for saving on the basis of their income at government authorised banks only.
He also said that people should have psychology of money but egoism in money should be discarded.
Stating that life is full of surprises, he said that one must save as much money as they can as savings will help withstand life's many surprises as well as for the future generations.
Cautioning against splurging on luxury items and lifestyles to avoid dire .
consequences, he said that an impulse to lead a lavish lifestyle beyond one's means in an attempt to impress others carl lead to a debt trap.
Elaborating on the schemes and tools introduced by banks and government, he said that it is rather unfortunate that many people are blinded by greed seeking easy money through unstable routes like village level micro-credit schemes.
Delivering the key note address of the event, Small Savings Manipur director Rojendrakar said that the main objective behind observing World Thrift Day is to make people aware about proper use of money.
Lending money should always be done in legal way andillegal way of saving would not help in achieving the goal of saving either, he added.
Later, a technical session was conducted wherein Bishnupur district LBM Y Ibochou Singh, Bishnupur Post Office post master and director small savings Md Kheiruddin Mohamad gave presentations on various topics.
The technical session concluded with an interaction session with IPPB officials and agents.
