Planning To Buy A Used Mahindra Thar? Pros And Cons Here

The new-gen Mahindra Thar was in India just last year and it's been a runaway success for the Indian automaker which has received over 75,000 bookings in just over a year. That said, we have also started seeing the Thar in the used car market as for some people it could have been an impulsive buy. The Mahindra Thar is a lifestyle oriented hardcore off-roader but still doesn't classify as the only car in the family mainly due to its two-door configuration. If you are planning to buy a used Mahindra Thar, here are some pros and cons you might want to look at.

Pros

1. It's one of the most handsome looking lifestyle SUVs and grab eyeballs in the traffic. Its muscular looks is what SUV lovers admire and it has a proper Jeep stance.
2. Well! It's also safe. The Mahindra Thar bagged a 4-star crash test rating when the car was tested by the Global NCAP.
3. The cabin too feels modern and gets a touchscreen infotainment system as well. It's a new 7.0-inch unit which has in-built navigation and smartphone integration like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
   

   The cabin has been re-designed completely and feels much more premium, compared to the old model
4. In terms of engine options, the new Thar gets a 2.0-litre mStallion 150 TGDI petrol engine which makes 150 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 320 Nm between 1,500-3,000 rpm. The diesel engine is a 2.2-litre mHawk 130 which makes 130 bhp at 3,750 rpm and 300 Nm of peak torque between 1,600-2,800 rpm. Both engines have the option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox too
5. It's a hardcore off-roader with a mechanical 4x4 transfer case that's offered as standard with four-wheel low, four-wheel high and two-wheel drive modes and has a low crawl ration of 42:1 which can multiply the low end torque by 2.48 times. It is equipped with an independent suspension at the front while the rear gets a multi-link unit.

Cons

1. It's a fairly new model and so will still be expensive for a used car.
2. The 2-door and 4 seat configuration is a little impractical as getting in the second row can be a bit of a challenge. There's no boot space as such and luggage space will be a problem if four people plan a road trip in the Thar.
   

   The new Thar is every bit as outdoorsy at the old model.

3. The ride quality of the Mahindra Thar is bumpy and it's bit of a task driving it in city traffic conditions or pareking it in tight spots.
