Tamil superstar Suriya Sivakumar took to Twitter to pay a heartfelt tribute to Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar. The actor said that he was “devastated” by the untimely death of Rajkumar. “Unable to come to terms with this loss! Kannada film star Puneeth Rajkumar’s daughter, Vanditha Rajkumar, has reached Bengaluru airport. Vanditha stays in the USA, where she is currently studying. The actor’s funeral was earlier scheduled to take place today evening at Bengaluru’s Kanteerava Studios. However, Karnataka CM said that “performing last rites after 6 PM in that small space is going to be challenging.” He added, “Considering all factors and discussing with his brothers Raghavendra Rajkumar and Shivrajkumar, we have decided that the last rites will be performed tomorrow (Sunday).”

Puneeth Rajkumar’s family doctor Ramana Rao says the Kannada star’s sudden death due to cardiac arrest has got nothing to do with his lifestyle. Speaking to News18 Kannada, Rao said Puneeth had come to his clinic with his wife Ashwini after he felt some uneasiness. “His blood pressure was normal, heartbeat was steady and lungs were clear but he was sweating which he said was normal after a workout. I anyway decided to do an ECG. I noticed a strain in the ECG that I conveyed to Ashwini and asked her to take him to Vikram hospital,” the doctor said. The actor was taken to the hospital in 5 to 6 minutes but could not be saved.

Meanwhile, saddened by the Kannada film star’s untimely death, a die-hard fan took his life in Karnataka, while two suffered heart attacks. Thousands of grieving fans have been flocking to Kanteerava Stadium to catch a final glimpse of their beloved star. Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai condoled the death of Rajkumar and announced that full state honours would be accorded during the actor’s funeral. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to mourn the untimely death of the Kannada film star. “A cruel twist of fate has snatched away from us a prolific and talented actor, Puneeth Rajkumar. This was no age to go. The coming generations will remember him fondly for his works and wonderful personality. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” the PM tweeted.
Puneeth Rajkumar’s untimely demise sent shockwaves across the country, with tributes pouring in from all quarters. Joining in grief was a host of South stars including Jr NTR, Mahesh Babu, Chiranjeevi, Lakshmi Manchu, R Madhavan, Dulquer Salmaan, and Prithviraj Sukumaran among many others. Puneeth’s fans remembered the late actor as “one of the kindest and noblest” film stars.
The youngest son of Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar, Puneeth was referred to as ‘Power Star’ and ‘Appu’ by fans. Puneeth started his acting career as a child artist along with his father. He won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his role of Ramu in Bettada Hoovu (1985). Puneeth also won the Karnataka State Award for Best Child Artist for his performances in Chalisuva Modagalu and Yeradu Nakshatragalu.
Puneeth starred in over 29 Kannada films. He had appeared as a lead actor in a number of commercially successful films including Appu (2002), Abhi (2003), Veera Kannadiga (2004), Mourya (2004), Aakash (2005), Ajay (2006), Arasu (2007), Milana (2007), Vamshi (2008), Raam (2009), Jackie (2010), Hudugaru (2011), Raajakumara (2017), and Anjani Putra (2017).
