Dedicated freight corridor from Dankuni via Raghunathpur to attract an investment worth Rs 72,000 crore: Minister

Mr Manna was speaking at the Opening Plenary of the CII IR Conclave organized virtually today.
The industrial ecosystem has indeed witnessed tightrope walk owing to trade union and labour
union strikes, he opined.
According to him, Government of West Bengal has indeed achieved a milestone in not only minimizing frictions between trade entities, but also played an integral role in resolving existing differences between stakeholders and labourers.
State Government has also ensured development of logistic infrastructure - the roadways to
ensure seamless operation of business for industrialization of the state. Roads are indeed vital
for any developmental agenda, through which the economy pulses. The dedicated freight corridor
from Dankuni via Raghunathpur will not only attract an investment worth Rs 72,000 crores, but
will also be instrumental in “generating income and jobs, “ he added.
Echoing Mr Manna’s thoughts on how the state has moved forward from bandhs, strikes, lockouts
to meaningful discussions for solving conflicts, Dola Sen, MP, Rajya Sabha and National President, INTTUC stated that zero man-days was lost due to strikes, this is how the business landscape is
being eased in the State.
However, there is still a lot of labour violations which exists and few examples are there which are
not at all upto the mark, especially in contractual service.
She expressed her desire to become a catalyst to solve problems related to industrial or labour dispute.
She suggested that CII and Trade unions should join hands to overcome all the odds being faced
day by day.
Ashok Singh, Titular Member of the Governing Body, International Labour Organization opined that partnership of the Government and industry is the need of the hour.
He stated that both Central and State Government is trying to create a situation of recovery.
He expressed that Labour interest should be taken up on priority to create a win-win situation.
Barun Kumar Ray, Principal Secretary, Labour Department, Government of West Bengal spoke
about the different schemes brought in by the State Government.
Speaking about schemes like Samajik Suraksha Yojana, Swasthya Sathi scheme, lakshmi
Bhandar, he mentioned State Governments attempts to provide social security. On reforms
relating to Ease of Doing Business he said that the Government has to do a tight rope walk.
There is a need to work in collaboration with sector specific groups to provide continuity of employment.
According Savita Mishra, Addl Labour Commissioner, Department of Labour, Government
of Chhattisgarh, one should not think only about industry, but also workers. Covid 19 created
havoc for the migrant workers. Chhattisgarh State Government has taken the initiative of
registering workers through online portal and create an identity of labourers.
The portal would address the challenges faced by the workers. Skill mapping through
Kaushal Vikas. State level help desk to be established not only for the workers but also
industry, Ms Mishra said.
The day-long Seminar had Panel Discussions on Diversity Management, - Reforms for
Easing Business Landscape, advocacy and administration and Trade Union Dialogue

Hardcore NSCN (IM) cadre, involved in planning ambush on Assam Rifles, nabbed

Itanagar, Oct 28 (UNI) Security forces have apprehended a hardcore cadre of Naga insurgent
group NSCN (IM) in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday who was reportedly
involved in planning an ambush on the Assam Rifles in a remote village in the district last year,
a police source said on Thursday.
“Based on specific input regarding presence of a hardcore NSCN (IM) cadre, a special operation
was launched by 6th Assam Rifles along with Tirap Police on 27th October 2021 to intercept
movement of the suspected cadre who was later apprehended by the joint team,” it said, adding that
a pistol and live ammunition were also recovered from the insurgent.
