Nashik youth arrested for killing Pune girl in Jaipur

JAIPUR: City police on Wednesday arrested a 35-year-old man who followed a 25-year old woman from Nashik in Maharashtra to Jaipur and then stabbed her multiple times with a knife in Sanganer five days ago.
Sanganer police identified the accused as one Mahesh Bhaskar Thackeray. The accused attacked Zoya Ashraf Mallik twice when she was walking back from a tea shack with her friend near Sitabari bus stand on Friday.

Police said Mahesh claimed to have married Zoya in 2020. She left him soon after and Mahesh filed a missing complaint in Pune. She subsequently told Pune police that she did not want to live with Mahesh anymore. Jaipur police claimed that Zoya told in her statements to Pune police that she wanted to live with one Sahil, a resident of West Bengal.
Mahesh did not like Zoya’s affair with Sahil. He began following her but Zoya changed her phone number. Police said only Sahil and Zoya’s friend Kumkum knew about her whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Zoya recently moved to New Delhi and stopped all her conversations with Mahesh. But he was determined to find her out anyhow. The accused kept close tabs on her movements and even went to New Delhi in her search.
He learnt that Zoya had gone to Jaipur to meet her friend Kumkum. On October 21, the accused also arrived here. He booked a hotel room near Sanganer and searched the area to find her.
As per police, the accused found out that Zoya was staying with Kumkum and followed both of them. He conducted a complete recce of Zoya’s every step and on 5.21pm on Friday, he stabbed her with a knife when she was returning with Kukum after having tea at a shop. Police said they had learned about Mahesh soon after the murder and constituted a team to track him down. Police said they have to verify the accused’s claims that he had indeed married Zoya.
