Imphal, October 27 2021: JAC has demanded for justice in the case of an 11 year old minor girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by Gangbi Gangmei, a police constable hailing from Kangpokpi district.
The demand was made by Merajao Kamei, president of JAC at a press briefing held at Manipur Press Club today.
Elaborating further, he added that the alleged assault occurred on January 11, 2020 during a celebration of Gaan-Ngai festival at Chini Ingkhol, Kangpokpi district, wherein Gangbi Gangmei who was employed as a police constable in Tengnoupal district allegedly sexually assaulted the victim multiple times.
Merajao Kamei also mentioned that Gangbi Gangmei threatened to kill the victim if she disclosed the matter to anyone when he returned home for holidays at Chini Ingkhol and allegedly continued to sexually assault the minor.
With regards to this case, president of the JAC alleged that the public prosecution as well as the director of prosecution are more invested in getting the police constable involved acquitted instead of bringing justice to the victim.
The JAC has also submitted a request to the Chief Justice for this case to be tried in a Fast Track Court.
Further the JAC has appealed for a speedy delivery of justice in this case, failing which, they will resort to knocking on the door of the Human Rights Commission, he said.
