OPINION:
Under international law, Israel includes Judea, Samaria and Gaza (“Israel defies Biden with new settlement push,” World, Oct. 28). Only Israel can give part of it away, which it is willing to do.
The Palestinian Authority has had many opportunities to make peace with Israel and to establish its own country. It has rejected every offer.
Under the Oslo Accords, the PA was given control of parts of the territory (areas A and B) until an agreement is reached. Until then, Israel can build wherever it wants to.
It is interesting how unconcerned the media is about illegal Arab construction. While 40% of areas A and B are vacant land, the PA and its European Union funders insist on building Arab settlements in area C, which is under Israeli control. Then they complain of poor water and other services.
If and when the PA and Israel make peace, this non-issue will dissipate.
