Facebook is changing its name to Meta!

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement at Connect, the company’s annual conference.

“From now on, we’re going to be the metaverse first. Not Facebook first,” Mark told the crowd at the event. “Facebook is of for the most used products in the world. But increasingly, it doesn’t encompass everything that we do. Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything we are doing.”

Currently, Mark owns the @meta Twitter handle and meta.com.

“The next platform will be even more immersive — an embodied internet where you’re in the experience, not just looking at it. We call this the metaverse, and it will touch every product we build,” Mark wrote in a blog post.

The rumor that Facebook would be changing its name first spread last week.
