On his 35th birthday on Wednesday, Australian opener and former Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner opened up about his recent form in UAE grounds and laughed at the matter saying that the people talking about his form are quite funny.
Speaking with the reporters, Warner dismissed the concerns over his recent and said he had reverted to practising on synthetic wickets and polished concrete to sharpen his batting at the T20 World Cup. At the end of the day he has played hardly any cricket. The IPL, for example, he had two games and then basically wanted to give all the other youngsters a crack and what-not, Warner said.
Warner had scored 14 runs in the opening win over South Africa after managing scores of 1 and 0 in practice matches against India and New Zealand.
Before his inclusion in Australia’s World Cup squad, Warner had been dropped by Sunrisers Hyderabad after scoring a total of 2 runs in 2 consecutive games in the second leg of the IPL 2021 in UAE.
Australia will play its next encounter against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Thursday.
Warner also said the tournament’s practice pitches had not done him any favours. Describing them as low wickets that aren’t great and aren’t pretty after their use in the IPL, he said that the training is quite difficult on them as well considering that the wickets are quite good at the moment.
Warner said at the moment he has been training on synthetic wickets, some polished concrete to get timing and rhythm and moving his feet that’s helping him. He also thinks that his opening partner Aron Finch did the same during the practice session.
Warner’s opening partner Finch was out for a duck against South Africa and managed eight in the practice match against India.
Prior to South Africa on Saturday, Australia’s long-time opening pair had not played a T20 international together since September 2020 against England in Southampton.
