Meanwhile, a new study led by Pune-based researchers has traced a total of 108 mutations of the SARS-Cov-2, which include four novel mutations in India, in the wastewater samples collected from Pune city between December 2020 and April 2021. The samples for the study, published late last week in the journal Science of the Total Environment of Science Direct, were collected from an open wastewater drain near Deccan (Prabhat Road basin), entering Mutha river.
In other news, with increasing cases of crimes against women being reported in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the demand for a separate police station for women has gained momentum. The Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and the police commissionerate have also supported the idea so that women can step forward and lodge complaints without hesitation or fear.
Camera traps will be installed in and around the area where an early morning attack by a leopard was reported in Hadapsar on Tuesday. The camera traps will help study the path of the animal in the region, said Principal Chief Conservator of Forest of Maharashtra, Sunil Limaye.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Limaye said, “I have instructed Pune DCF Rahul Patil to take all the required measures to rescue the leopard, including installing trap cages in the area and using the tranquiliser gun if the situation calls for it. I have also directed that camera traps be installed in the area to understand the path of movement of the leopard so that subsequent steps can be contemplated.” Read more
Two passengers travelling on Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Konark Express were injured after robbers allegedly tried to snatch gold ornaments from the windows of the train compartment on Tuesday night.
According to officials from the Government Railway Police (GRP), the incident took place at Nanveej which is located around 75 kilometers from Pune city. An officer said that three robbers targeted a sleeper coach when the train came to a halt due to the alleged tampered signal. Read more
Solving a case in which a woman from Pune was duped of Rs 12 lakh through a matrimonial website, the Pune City police have arrested two Nigerian nationals from Greater Noida, who are suspected to have cheated people in many such cases, officials said on Tuesday.
The officials from the Cyber crime police station of the Pune police were probing a case in which a woman was cheated to the tune of Rs 12 lakh through a profile she was in contact with on a matrimonial website. The woman was in contact with the profile of a person who posed to have a job abroad. Between June and July 2020, she was made to transfer Rs 12 lakh on various pretexts. Read more
