Eric Hargan, former deputy secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, will advise Amino, a digital health platform that helps workers at self-insured employers find and book appointments with providers, the company announced Wednesday.
Hargan will help Amino navigate surprising billing and price transparency regulations under the auspices of his new consulting firm, The Hargan Group. Amino plans to update its platform to comply with the new rules.
“The Amino product team will build new data, features and tools to support regulatory compliance with the Transparency in Coverage Rule and No Surprises Act,” according to a company news release.
The former Trump administration official advocated for price transparency during his last tour of public service, helping lead the development and finalization of a rule requiring nearly all health insurers and self-insured plans to disclose pricing and cost-sharing information. It’s common for former government officials to consult with private businesses about the regulations they helped create, but the practice is controversial because it can create perceived conflicts of interest.
Hargan now serves on the boards of healthcare startups Alio Medical and Tomorrow Health, as well as University Hospitals in Cleveland, SIU Medicine and HealthTrackRx.
