Slowly and gradually, Greece is fortifying the connection between culture and tourism. This way, the country is managing to create “brands” for its tourism product along with competitive advantages compared to adjacent countries, says Culture Minister, Lina Mendoni.

Lina Mendoni also highlighted the fact that cultural investments bring tourism flows at the same time profit local economies.
In the meantime, international study shows that cultural tourism comprises 40 percent of the economy for tourism.
“Ancient Olympia and Delphi are two very distinctive cases [of culture and tourism] as their viability highly depends their archaeological sites,” Mendoni said.
Also, the minister pointed out about the partnership between the ministries of culture and tourism, and at the same time invited the authorities based locally to connect with Greece’s rich culture with tourism.
The culture ministry has already proposed of setting up of five Cultural Routes in Northern Greece, Central Macedonia, Easter Macedonia-Thrace, Epirus and Western Greece. These would connect culture with all the main archaeological sites.
