Preserve Thang-Ta call rung out

Imphal, October 26 2021: The present generation should do all that they can to preserve and promote the lone martial art form of the state, "Thang-Ta" in the international fora, former Manipur University vice chancellor Professor H Tombi has stated.
He made the statement during the 1st Guru Gourakishor (Padmashree) Memorial Lecture-2021 organised by Huyen-Lallong Thang-Ta Cultural Association at its auditorium in Irilbung on Tuesday.
Prof Tombi said that the art and culture of Manipur has a unique identity, which has enabled it to secure a place in the international art and cultural arena.
Thang-Ta is one of the important cultural assets of Manipur, being the lone martial art form of the state.
Guru Gourakishor had played an important role in preservation and propagation of this art form, he noted, while stressing that the present generation must not forget his contribution in this regard.
The former VC continued that the art and cultural of Manipur is quite vast and serious attention should also be paid to other art forms in addition to Thang-Ta.
As part of the memorial lecture, literary critic and Manipur State Kala Akademi awardee Longjam Joychandra spoke on the topic 'Manipuri Kala and Sanskriti Mityeng Ama' .
