SANTA FE, N.M. — New Mexico deputies seized nine shell casings and several boxes of ammo as part of their investigation into the deadly accident on the set of the movie “Rust,” newly released documents revealed.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed when a prop gun handled by actor Alec Baldwin went off last Thursday, sparking an investigation into the tragedy.
An inventory list of items seized as part of a search warrant issued Friday shows investigators with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office also collected three black revolvers and 14 swabs of “suspected blood.”
“Loose ammo and boxes” from a tray, several boxes of ammo, and a “fanny pack w/ammo” were among the items listed on the inventory list, though the document doesn’t specify the brand or type of bullets.
Juan Rios, the public information officer for the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office, said the sheriff is expected to disclose what type of ammo was fired from the gun during a press conference scheduled for Wednesday morning.

The ammo is expected to be a key part of the investigation into what went wrong, as a production source claimed that blanks and live roads had been stored in the same area.
Reports have even indicated that the prop gun that killed Hutchins may have been used off-set by crew members for target practice – with live rounds in the chamber.

The inventory list includes other material, including a hard drive, leather belts with holsters and articles of clothing including a black facemask.
The search warrant was executed for a small building on the ranch set that was serving as a church in the film where the shooting occurred. It’s described in the warrant as a wooden structure with a pitched roof and a cross on top.
