Greater Noida: The body of a 75-year-old woman was recovered from a flat at Cherry County society in Greater Noida (west). The woman, who used to live by herself in the flat, was dead for around three-four days, according to the police.
Shakuntala Devi, a widow, was suffering from a liver ailment. She had been staying alone for about the past seven years and was recently hospitalised by the police after she fell and suffered a back injury. Police said she was not on talking terms with her daughter who stays in Mumbai.
According to police, the flat is on the fifth floor of a tower inside the society. Around 6 pm on Monday, the local police were informed about a foul smell was emanating from the flat and that no one was responding to the knocks on the door.
Bisrakh SHO Anita Chauhan told TOI that she had received a call about the woman having suffered a fall about three months back. “The local chowki in-charge was instructed and he took the woman to the Yatharth hospital in Greater Noida (west). She was discharged after a few days of treatment,” she said.
Sub-inspector Kedar Singh, the former chowki incharge of the Cherry County police post, said: “Her husband died a few years ago and she was not in touch with anybody.”
Cops suspect that the death was natural and have sent the dead body for post-mortem. DCP (central Noida) Harish Chander told TOI that the police had to cut a portion of the wire mesh of the main door of the flat to enter the house.
