Saikia moves EC over poll code violation

Guwahati: Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia has filed a complaint before the Chief Election Commissioner against Assam Minister Ashok Singhal for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the bypolls in the state. In a letter to the CEC, dated October 24, Saikia said Singhal had indulged in "unconstitutional activities". PTI

HC extends interim relief to Vijayvargiya

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday extended the interim protection granted to BJP leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya, Jisnu Basu and Pradeep Joshi on their petition for anticipatory bail in connection with an "assault" on a woman.Their lawyers said the woman had initially filed two assault complaints and had later moved a lower court alleging sexual assault.
