New Delhi: A volunteer (sewadar) at a temple in southeast Delhi has been booked for allegedly harassing and stalking a girl and sending her lewd messages. Multiple teams have been formed to arrest the suspect, senior officers said.
The complainant, a 15-year-old girl, alleged that she, along with her father, used to visit the temple in Kalkaji on a daily basis where the accused, aged around 40 years, used to meet them. The accused has been identified as Amit who had been trying to befriend the girl for some time, police said.
“The complainant said the man used to stare at her with sexual intentions and made her uncomfortable. She said she initially ignored his intentions, but he kept on trying to befriend her,” the officer said. “She said the man even sent her messages on
WhatsApp following which she told her parents about it. Around a year and a half ago, when the survivor had brought the matter to her parent’s notice, he had even apologised, promising not to repeat the act,” said the officer.
However, the girl said, the man again started texting her after a few days. “She alleged that he had even morphed her photo and used it on a messaging application. Following this, her parents reported the matter to police,” the officer added.
Based on her complaint, a case has been registered at the Amar Colony police station under IPC 509 (intending to insult the modesty of a woman), 354D (stalking) and under POCSO Act.
Initial probe has revealed that the suspect is a resident of Sarai Julena in Delhi. “CCTV camera footage is being checked to trace him. A few raids were conducted and he is absconding. We have possible leads and he will be arrested soon,” police said. tnn
