The Mets are now looking internally for president of baseball operations candidates.
According to The Post’s Mike Puma, the team has discussed promoting assistant GM Ian Levin or vice president of amateur/international scouting Tommy Tanous to the position. That report follows a series of rejections as the Mets have looked for outside hires.
Billy Beane and Theo Epstein have both eliminated themselves from the running. The Mets were also denied permission by Milwaukee to speak with David Stearns, their president of baseball operations. The Post reported on Monday that Giants GM Scott Harris interviewed, but is unlikely to leave San Francisco.
Thus, the search has gone internal.
The Mets hope to have someone hired by the time the World Series is over, with general managers’ meetings set to begin on Nov. 8.
