Pandit Loishang strongly opposes construction inside its premises

Imphal, October 24 2021: Tension gripped here at Palace Compound this afternoon as Pandit Loishang members disrupted construction of a building inside the premises of Pandit Loishang.
The Pandit Loishang has been opposing the temple construction undertaken by the Government Authority for a long and a case regarding it is still pending in the Court.
Today's incident took place at around 1 pm when members of Pandit Loishang tried to disrupt the construction work.
However, the situation was brought under control after a large number of Imphal East police personnel rushed to the spot.
Later, members of Pandit Loishang staged a sit-in protesting the construction inside the premises of Pandit Loishang against the will and consent of the Loishang members.
Taking the matter to media persons, a member of Pandit Loishang stated that they have been protesting against any kind of construction inside the Loishang premises.
When the authority concerned started construction of the said building, they submitted a memorandum to the State Chief Minister who is also the president of Govindajee Temple Board, the member said.
He also stated that protection of the Meitei religion's sacred place is a must and the members will protect it at any cost.
Regarding the construction, the members of Pandit Loishang have filed a petition before the Court pleading for the protection of the Pandit Loishang premises and the matter is still pending in the Court, he said.
He further said that construction of temples that are not related to the Pandit Loishang and the indigenous religion is an attempt to tarnish the Meitei indigenous religion.
