Skoda Kamiq Being Transformed Into A Rally Car Concept By Students

The Volkswagen Group has a long history of allowing students and apprentices to build custom concepts and the latest is a rally-inspired Skoda Kamiq.

Set to become Skoda’s eighth student car, a group of 25 students is working with the Skoda Motorsport team and is tasked with turning the Kamiq into a rally car suited for the Dakar Rally.

This is the first time the Skoda Academy has collaborated with Skoda Motorsport and the students are being assisted by experienced designers as well as members of technical development and production teams.

The project is in the early stages, but the students recently visited Skoda’s design department where they were given tips before creating the first sketches of the concept. As you can see, it’s an aggressive looking crossover with bulging fenders, a rear wing, and sizable wheels wrapped in off-road rubber. We can also see a familiar front fascia and a roof-mounted scoop in some sketches.

Development of the concept was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and Skoda said the “unveiling of the latest student car will take place gradually as work on the car continues in various areas and disciplines.” The company added the concept not only provides a “great experience for the students,” but another way of celebrating the 120th anniversary of Skoda Motorsport.

Skoda has been turning out student-designed cars since 2014, when the company introduced the eye-catching Citijet concept which was a convertible based on the Citigo. Since then, the company has presented an assortment of other models including the Mountiaq pickup, the Element beach buggy and the Slavia roadster.
