Over 30 restaurants and kitchens were inspected by the St. Clair County Health Department in September.

More than 30 restaurants and kitchens were inspected by the St. Clair County Health Department in September.

During these inspections, some of the violations discovered included:

  • Walls inside a walk-in cooler soiled with black mildew in some locations.
  • Food being stored in a tray on top of a garbage can during preparation.
  • No one on staff having food manager certification to be knowledgeable especially on date marking/safe shelf life and correct cleaning and sanitizing of food contact surfaces.
  • Food items held beyond safe shelf life, more than seven days from when opened/prepared, like aioli, blue cheese dressing and more.
  • Items like can openers and deli slicer blades visibly soiled with food.

Routine food service inspections are a vital part of protecting a community's overall health and the St. Clair County Health Department inspects different county licensed food service establishments every month, according to the department's website.

The following is a list of the 33 inspections the department conducted in September, which includes The Anchor Point Bistro, Cafe Nola, Martina's Grill, KFC and more:
