Finland prepares to implement EU rule preventing public aid for 5G networks

Monday 25 October 2021 | 12:40 CET | News
The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications said that on 21 October 2021, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal to amend the Act on Broadband Construction that would mean that in future, aid could only be granted for constructing fixed connections. This will bring Finland into line with the change to the EU Commission's General Block Exemption Regulation, which must enter force by 03 February 2022. The EU's amendment means aid cannot be granted to build 5G networks in Finland, a country where almost everyone has LTE.
