A 53-year-old Golden man was sentenced to 22 years in prison for assaulting three men experiencing homelessness in 2019.
A Jefferson County jury in August found Roger Allan Coderre guilty on nine charges, including multiple counts of assault and felony menacing, the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
On June 12, 2019, Coderre approached two men, who were homeless, on Jackson Street in Golden and struck them with a metal baton while verbally harassing them, prosecutors said. Both men sustained head injuries.
Investigators later tied Coderre to a third assault on Jan. 5, 2019, in a church parking lot. In that instance, Coderre shouted “get out of my Golden” and “If I see you again, I’ll kill you,” authorities said.
Coderre admitted after the assault to placing an anonymous call to an investigator on the case, in which he claimed the two men were trying to trick the police, prosecutors said.
