Springbok scrumhalf Faf de Klerk has provided a positive update after undergoing hip flexor surgery on his 30th birthday last week (19 October).

De Klerk faces four months on the sidelines after going under the knife in England last week, but good news for South African rugby fans is that the surgery was successful.

"Not ideal having surgery on your 30th birthday, but just want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes and get well soon messages! Surgery went well," De Klerk wrote on Instagram on Sunday.

De Klerk is one of several injured players not in the current Springbok squad for their year-end tour. The others include wing Cheslin Kolbe, flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit, lock RG Snyman and prop Frans Malherbe.

The Boks are currently in Paris for a training camp before Test against Wales in Cardiff (6 November), Scotland in Edinburgh (13 November) and England in London (20 November).
