Following India’s defeat at the hands of their rivals Pakistan, the Indian social media is flooded with posts and tweets attacking the Indian players. Although every player is attacked, it is Mohammed Shami who has to deal with the worst. Despite captain Kohli’s admission that they were downright outplayed by the Pakistani team, the fans decided to target the 31-year-old bowler for his dismal performance in the game.
Losing the toss, and having to bat first in a flat wicket India suffered some huge earl blows. Although their captain came to their aid, even his fifty couldn’t post help India post a competitive total. What rubbed salt to their wound was that Pakistani openers Babar Azam and Rizwan chased down the target without losing a single wicket. This shows that it was a collective failure on the part of the entire team, and not just one person, yet the trollers on the internet were relentless. Things took an ugly turn when Shami’s religion was brought into play and posts calling him “traitor” started surfacing online. The atrocious trollers even went to the limit of calling out for throwing the bowler out of the country. This shows how weak Indian fans’ memory is because only a month ago it was Shami who put up a great performance in England during the test matches.
#MohammedShami was one of 11 players who lost last night, he wasn’t the only player on the field. Team India your BLM knee taking counts for nothing if you can’t stand up for your team mate who is being horribly abused & trolled on social media.

Several former players and politicians alike came to the aid of the pace bowler and posted on the internet about the same. One of the most highlighted tweets came from Irfan Pathan, in which he shared his own experience of losing against Pakistan. He wrote that despite losing a match against Pakistan, he was never “told to go back to Pakistan.” Former Indian Opener Sehwag and commentator Harsha Bhogle too shared posts in support of Shami.
Even I was part of #IndvsPak battles on the field where we have lost but never been told to go to Pakistan! I’m talking about 🇮🇳 of few years back. THIS CRAP NEEDS TO STOP. #Shami

The online attack on Mohammad Shami is shocking and we stand by him. He is a champion and Anyone who wears the India cap has India in their hearts far more than any online mob. With you Shami. Agle match mein dikado jalwa.
