NCB on Monday ordered a vigilance enquiry into the episode wherein one of the panch witnesses in the cruise raid case Prabhakhar Sail had made allegations about the payoff involving Sameer Wankhede, Zonal Director of Mumbai NCB. Soon NCB's vigilance team would be arriving in Mumbai to conduct an enquiry.

Speaking to FPJ, Deputy Director General of NCB, Gyaneshwar Singh confirmed, "An enquiry has been ordered today. A vigilance team of NCB will soon be visiting Mumbai for the enquiry purpose."

On Sunday, Sail, who was working as a personal bodyguard of KP Gosavi, another NCB witness in the case, had filed a notarised affidavit and claimed in the said affidavit that he had overheard Gosavi talking to one Sam over the phone and they were discussing some payoff of Rs 8 crore to Wankhede. Sail also claimed in the affidavit that he was made to sign ten blank papers in the NCB office on the day of the raid.

In his affidavit, Sail also claimed that when they were at Lower Parel Bridge, a woman came in a Mercedes car to the spot. Sam, Gosavi and the woman then sat in the Mercedes and started talking.

Sail also claimed in his affidavit that after the raid when Gosavi and he had reached Vashi, Gosavi told him to take his car and collect Rs 50 lakh cash from someone at Tardeo. "I reached around 9:45 am, at the said place where someone came in a car and gave me two bags filled with cash which I took to Vashi and gave it to Kiran Gosavi. In the evening, Gosavi gave the same bag of cash to me and told me to give it to Sam. Later Sam called me and asked to meet him near a hotel in Mumbai. I met him and handed over the bag of cash to him in his car. However, when he counted the cash it was only Rs 38 lakhs," Sail had alleged in the affidavit.

Sail also feared that NCB officials and other persons involved may kill me or abduct him.

Following this, the NCB had issued a statement stating that Sameer Wankhede has categorically denied these allegations made by Sail and as some of the contents of the affidavit relate to vigilance matters, it has been forwarded to the Director General NCB for further necessary action.
