SW monsoon withdraws from country, NE monsoon sets in over TN, Pondy

Chennai, Oct 25 (UNI) The Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the country
and the Northeast monsoon has set in over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today, the
met office said.
Met office in a bulletin said in view of significant reduction in rainfall activity
over most parts of the country, the Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from
the entire country today.
"Simultaneously with the setting in of northeasterly winds in the lower tropospheric
levels, the Northeast monsoon rains has commenced over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry
and Karaikal area and adjoining areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam,
Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala and Mahe today", it said.
The met office said the state received above average rainfall during the southwest
monsoon.
Under the influence of Northeast monsoon, heavy rains were likely to occur for the
next five days in Cauvery delta districts and southern districts of the State.
Thunderstorm with heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tirunelveli,
Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Pudukkottai, Tiruppur, Karur and
Tiruvarur districts.
Thunderstorm with moderate rain is likely to occur at many places over western
Ghat districts and interior Tamil Nadu. Thunderstorm with Light rain is also likely
to occur at many places over north coastal Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal
areas.
Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is also likely to occur at many places
over western Ghat districts and in interior parts of Tamil Nadu.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi,
Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Pudukkottai, Tiruppur, Karur and Tiruvarur
Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Namakkal, Karur and Salem districts of Tamil Nadu.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ramanathapuram,
Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and
delta districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal areas.
Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely to occur at many places over
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
The forecast for Chennai city is that the sky condition is likely to be generally
cloudy. Thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is likely to occur in some
areas.
