The 12-month program offers women a personalised approach that helps with the transition into (or back into) a technical career.
On the job formal training, mentoring and coaching lead to an offer of ongoing full-time placement within the Rea Group at the completion of the program.
REA Group Chief Technology Officer, Chris Venter said as a leading digital company, REA has an obligation to find new and innovative ways to bring talent into the tech workforce.
“Australia needs to prioritise building a workforce that helps us plug the digital skills gap and meets the requirements of a modern digital economy. There are six different initiatives in REA’s entry to tech programs and Springboard to Tech is one of the most pivotal,” Venter said.
“This program has genuinely shifted the dial on gender representation in REA’s tech workforce, with 20% female representation in 2017 to almost 30% now, and we absolutely want to get to 50% women in tech at REA.
“Our Springboarders vary from women returning to the sector, women who have completed a short course and those who are completely fresh to tech. We’re looking for people with the right mindset and attitude, and those who are curious and love to learn.”
Chris Venter and Chief People Officer, Mary Lemonis will join host Louise Alphonso (Executive Manager of Technology Community Programs), former ‘Springboarders’ and one the program’s mentors at a special webinar event today - Monday 25 October at 6pm AEDT - to share insight into the program and a tech career at REA.
REA says that previous tech experience is not required to be a Springboarder and successful candidates in the 2022 program who need an extra boost to their skills will be further supported with a place in the first intake of Silicon Valley education start-up, Holberton School’s Melbourne program in January 2022.
Holberton offers an alternative software engineering education program with modern learning methods built around joint problem solving and collaboration.
Applications for REA Group’s Springboard to Tech Program are now open, and further information can be found here.
