W Shamjai elected AMWJU president

Imphal, October 23 2021: Wangkhemcha Shamjai, who is chief editor of Kangleipakki Meira evening daily, has been elected as president of All Manipur Working lournalists' Union (AMWJU), the election for which was held at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday.
Shamjai secured 173 votes out of the total of 321 votes cast while his opponent Kakchingtabam Bijoy received 148 votes.
Five votes were declared invalid.
The state's scribes also voted to elect eight members of the standing committee out of the 11 contestants.
The standing committee members elected for the 2021-23 term with the number of votes secured are A Jiten Singh (183), Longjam Arishrona (176), Achom Binod Singh (175), Leimapokpam Shanjitkumar alias Bhakta (161), Laishram Pritam alias Leichil (157), Khwairakpam Naoba (154), Achom Priyo (151 and Ayekpam Birjit (150) .
