Federal police gear up for major arrests

Police are gearing up to arrest a "significant number" of people in the coming months following large-scale action under Operation Ironside.

Raids under the operation in June led to the arrest of more than 300 alleged offenders, identified 29 threats to kill and confiscated $49 million in cash, five tonnes of drugs and almost 140 weapons.

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw said "significant action" was in train and planned over coming months.

"I expect a significant number of alleged criminals to be arrested over the coming months," he told a Senate estimates hearing on Monday.
