The reigning queen, who is all set to represent our country at the prestigious Miss Grand International pageant, is on a mission to stop the ongoing war with nature. Manika, a chemical engineer by profession, has done multiple surveys and studies to protect our mother earth, over the course of her career. She participated in the beach cleaning drive, so as to pose an example and inspire the youth to take initiative and step closer towards a better tomorrow.

Afroz, who is best known for organizing the world's largest beach clean-up projects, has given birth to a revolutionizing movement, which has inspired people around the globe to clean up their surroundings. He helped our queen play a role in building hope for tomorrow.

Through this initiative, the participants aimed to protect marine species from plastic pollution, prevent the ocean gyres (plastic island) from getting bigger, cultivate a habit to avoid single-use plastic at home, and stop littering.

Following the drive, Afroz spoke to Manika about the multiple usages of the plastic waste collected from the beach. "Some plastics are easily recyclable like plastic bottles; they can be turned into t-shirts, clothes but only to a certain extent. But for whatever it's worth, if you get plastic on your hand, you must recycle it. Plastic which is difficult to recycle is with multilayer packaging, for example, numerous small sachets of shampoos, pouches, tetra packs; we saw a lot of them today, they're perfectly recyclable, but the multilayer packaging is a major issue, and they practically create havoc," he stated.
