COIMBATORE: Unidentified people broke into a house at
Gounder Mills on the outskirts of Coimbatore in the early hours of Saturday and stole four diamond necklaces worth Rs 1.30 crore and 50 sovereigns of gold ornaments.
The burglary happened in the house of B Srinivasan, 52, who is residing in a
villa on the Sanbrix Kingsberry residential premises. There are 25 villas at Sanbrix Kingsberry. The premise was covered with CCTV cameras and private security guards were available round the clock.
On Friday night, Srinivasan and his family members were sleeping on the first floor of the house. They were using an airconditioner in the bedroom.
Three burglars, who covered their faces, broke open the backdoor of the house and reached the first floor using the staircase.
“The family members did not hear any sound as they were in deep sleep in another room. They came to know about the burglary in the morning only,” said a police officer.
Srinivasan alerted the Thudiyalur police who rushed to the spot.
Coimbatore range deputy inspector general of police Muthusamy and superintendent of police S Selvanagarathinam visited the crime scene and held inquiry with the inmates of the house. The SP said ten special teams had bene formed to nab the burglars.
Sniffer dog Kani was pressed into service. Fingerprint bureau sub-inspectors lifted a few fingerprints from the crime scene.
Police said the burglars had broken open another house on the same premises and looted some silver articles. They also broke open three individual houses at Athirstalakshmi Nagar. However, they did not get any valuables.
The police registered a case.
