Global fashion brand United Colors of Benetton has expressed its willingness to increase apparel sourcing from Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has requested the company to collaborate with its suppliers in Bangladesh to build their capacities in manufacturing apparel products that have higher market demand.

During a meeting between the BGMEA and Benetton Asia Pacific Limited’s head of operations Monica Joshi recently, the association’s president Faruque Hassan said that the RMG industry of the country has increased its focus on diversification of products, especially non-cotton and high-end segment.

Hassan assured Benetton of all-out support from BGMEA to expand its suppliers’ base and sourcing volume in Bangladesh, the association said in a media release.

The BGMEA president also pointed out that an increase in prices of yarn, chemicals and other raw materials in the global supply chain has pushed up production costs in garment manufacturing. In such context, he underscored the need for justified price and more empathy towards supply chain partners to make the supply chain sustainable.
