
Maritzburg United beat TS Galaxy 1-0 in their DStv Premiership clash taking place at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.
The goal was scored just after the half-time break via a Galaxy own-goal from Bathusi Aubaas.
For Maritzburg, Lungelo Bhengu and Rowan Human both started and Daylon Claasen made a return alongside captain Bongokuhle Hlongwane up front.
The match was tight in the early exchanges, before Maritzburg had a scoring chance in the 15th minute when Zukile Kewuti crossed from the left. However, Hlongwane's header just cleared the crossbar.
United had a slight chance in the 20th minute when Human sent in a free-kick that found Claasen, but his header was well-saved by goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak.
On 23 minutes, United's Amadou Soukouna and Hlongwane combined well but their dangerous build-up was halted by out-rushing Kolak to claim the ball.
In the 37th minute, Galaxy's Mxolisi Macuphu received the ball via a Marks Munyai cross but hammered his shot wide right from the centre of the box.
Ryan Rae's long throw found Maritzburg defender Alfred Ndengane but he fired his shot straight at 'keeper Kolak, who saved easily.
Just before the half-time break, Galaxy had another scoring chance when Tshegofatso Nyama fired his left-footed shot from the right side of the box to narrowly miss the top left corner, after receiving a pass from Mlungisi Mbunjana.
The teams ended the first-half tied at 0-0.
Maritzburg made one change at half-time, bringing in midfielder Lifa Hlongwane to replace Human. Galaxy made two substitutions, midfielder Ethan Brooks replaced Mbunjana and forward Wayde Lekay came on for Sinethemba Mngomezulu.
In the 47th minute, United scored through a Galaxy own-goal by Aubaas, who tried to clear the ball before seeing it go into his own goal.
In the 62nd minute, Lekay tried his luck with a long-range shot for Galaxy but it was easily saved.
Shortly after, there was a great save by Kolak to deny Soukouna scoring from a free-kick.
Lindokuhle Mbatha tried his luck on 70 minutes for Galaxy with a shot, but he was denied by a diving save to the left from 'keeper Marcel Engelhardt to keep his side 1-0 ahead.
Minutes later, Maritzburg's Bongokuhle Hlongwane took a right-footed shot from inside the box but was denied from scoring in the top corner by a brilliant Kolak save.
The result sees Galaxy still stuck at the bottom of the league with two points after eight games, while Maritzburg climb to eighth on the table with 10 points.
