1. Port Arthur Memorial (7-1, 5-0)
Last week: No. 1
The Titans have more talent than anyone in Southeast Texas, and showed if off again on Friday night. Another big performance from quarterback Jah’mar Sanders fueled a 51-20 win over Baytown Lee. The Titans have now won five straight games to stay atop the rankings.
2. Vidor (7-0, 3-0)
Last week: No. 3
The Pirates seem to move up these rankings every week. They did it again with a dominating win over Livingston that kept Vidor perfect on the season. Who needs the passing game? Not the run-heavy Pirates, who now have the inside track to a district title.
3. West Orange-Stark (7-1, 5-0)
Last week: No. 4
The Mustangs might be the forgotten team in Southeast Texas this season. They just keep on winning, doing so this week with a 73-7 score over Liberty. West Orange-Stark has now wrapped up the district title, and will enjoy an off week next Friday before finishing out the season at Bridge City on Nov. 5.
4. Newton (6-1, 4-0)
Last week: No. 5
The Eagles move up one spot this week despite not playing. They’ve won four straight games and look like the Newton squad’s we’re used to seeing this time of year. The Eagles will face Hemphill on the road this Friday.
5. Little Cypress-Mauriceville (6-2, 2-1)
Last week: No. 8
The Bears are back in the thick of their district race after an important win over Lumberton. Quarterback Ashton Landry leads the way for LC-M’s explosive offense that can score with anyone. They needed everything they had during a 33-31 victory. This LC-M team just won’t go away in Eric Peevey’s first season.
6. Nederland (6-2, 3-2)
Last week: No. 2
The Bulldogs were blown out, 66-28 by Barbers Hill, and fall significantly in the rankings because of it. Nederland has now lost two of its last three games, and looks like a much different team from when they sat atop these rankings earlier this season. Nederland has plenty of questions to answer, and a short time to do it.
7. East Chambers (6-2, 4-0)
Last week: No. 9
East Chambers went on the road for a big win over Kirbyville, making it five victories in a row for the Bucs. After some early-season struggles, they apparently just needed to time to figure things out. The Bucs last four wins have all come by double digits.
8. Orangefield (6-2, 3-1)
Last week: NR
Back in the rankings are the Bobcats, who used a 23-14 road win at Bridge City to jump into second place in their district behind West Orange-Stark. Orangefield’s two-headed rush attack of Cameron Dischler and Hunter Ashworth looks hard for anyone to stop right now.
9. West Brook (5-3, 2-2)
Last week: No. 6
West Brook suffered arguably the worst loss of the weekend on Saturday, falling to a Summer Creek team that was previously winless in district play. It sets up a crucial game next week against C.E. King, which is also 2-2 in district play. The Bruins currently cling to the district’s last playoff spot.
10. Port Neches-Groves (5-3, 3-2)
Last week: No. 7
Crosby had no trouble dismantling PN-G during a 69-28 blowout. They haven’t played any defense all season, and Friday night was no exception. PN-G is talented, but has to find a way to get stops moving forward. The loss snapped a three-game win streak for PN-G.
Dropped from rankings: Lumberton (10).
