TLP continues protest demanding release of their leader, roads blocked in Lahore, Islamabad

Lahore, Oct 23 (UNI) Several roads remained blocked in Lahore and Islamabad as Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan continued their protest demanding release of their leader Saad Hussain Rizvi, on Saturday.
Dawn quoted spokesperson for the Lahore police, Rana Arif, as saying the protesters have reached the Kala Shah Kaku interchange and are planning to use the Grand Trunk Road to reach Islamabad.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, who was in Dubai for Pakistan's match in the T20 World Cup cricket, has returned home after Prime Minister Imran Khan's directive to monitor the situation.
According to a report by Dawn, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) issued a list of roads that were closed for traffic amid the tense situation.
Pakistan Interior Ministry on Saturday ordered suspension of internet services in various parts of Lahore after two policemen were killed when some workers of Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) ran their vehicles over them.
According to a report by Daily Times, the Interior Ministry has issued a notification ordering suspension of internet services in Data Darbar, Shahdara, and Ravi Bridge areas.
The protest is being held by TLP since Tuesday demanding release of their leader Saad Hussain Rizvi, a son of its late founder Khadim Rizvi.
Earlier, it had been reported that three police officers had been killed and several more injured in clashes with protesters in the northeastern Pakistani city of Lahore on Friday.
The protesters had thrown stones and Molotov cocktails at policemen and even used sticks during scuffles with police personnel.
Lahore DIG (Operation) Spokesperson Mazhar Hussain had said in a statement that the two officers killed by the protesters have been identified as Ayub and Khalid but the third official is yet to be identified.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for TLP aid that workers had endured the "worst shelling in history" and were "attacked from all sides" near the Mao College Pul, Dawn reported.
The spokesperson further said that at least 500 TLP workers had been seriously wounded while several had died during the clashes.
