Oct. 22—St. Paul police are searching for a man they say hit and killed a 55-year-old man while fleeing in a stolen car Friday morning.

Police were called to the 100 block of Bridlewood Drive in the city's Battle Creek neighborhood about 5 a.m. where they found a 30-year-old man arguing with a female inside a vehicle.

Officers engaged the couple and the man initially gave them a false name. When officers figured out his real name and discovered that he had multiple felony warrants, they tried to take him into custody. He resisted and struggled with the officers.

The man fled on foot. He found a white Lexus that was running and unattended, parked on the 200 block of Bridlewood Drive, and stole it, said Natalie Davis, spokesperson for the department.

Officers were not in pursuit of the vehicle, but shortly after, heard a crash. About a block away, police found the Lexus crashed into a tree at the intersection of Valleyside Drive and Parkland Court.

They also found a 55-year-old man who appeared to have been struck by the vehicle, lying unresponsive in the street. The man, who police have not named, died at the scene.

The St. Paul Canine Unit responded and attempted to track the suspect's location without success. Police say no arrests have been made, but that they know who the suspect is.

The identity of the man struck and killed is expected to be released later by the medical examiner.
