Jasper celebrates homecoming win

The Jasper Bulldogs did homecoming up right from the senior parade and bonfire on Thursday night, the crowning of the homecoming king and queen and taking care of business on the field Friday night. KaDance Traylor was elected homecoming queen and Trey Moran won the homecoming king honor during the ceremony at Friday’s game.

Once the attention turned to the visiting Shepherd Pirates, the Bulldogs got down to business. Jasper’s offense showed sparks and the defense continued to be a tough unit to score on.

Jasper opened the scoring in the first quarter to lead 7-0. The defense forced and recovered a Pirate fumble leading to a second score and a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.

An interception by the Bulldogs set up Jasper’s third touchdown of the first half and a 21-0 lead that stood through the end of the first half.

The Bulldogs added one more touchdown in the second half and the defense continued to pitch a shut out that held up through the entire game. Jasper won the game 28-0 to cap a great homecoming week.

Now the attention focuses on the remaining two games for the Bulldogs as they travel to Center this week and then host Madisonville in the final regular season game of the year.

Center seems to be a team that the Bulldogs can handle, especially on defense, but no opponent should ever be underestimated. The final week of the season will match the two teams that are currently tied for second place in District 10-4A Division II.

Madisonville hosts Carthage this Friday. If the Carthage Bulldogs continue winning and Jasper can take care of their business in Center against the Roughriders, then Jasper will have sole possession of the No.2 spot in the district and will be playing to maintain that position to have the best chance to advance in the playoffs.
