Australian legendry spinner Shane Warne picked India and England as his favourites to lift the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021 trophy in UAE and Oman. He also listed out teams who could pose a threat to the above-mentioned two teams.
India is set to open their campaign in the Super 12s against Pakistan on October 24 while England to play against the defending champion West Indies on October 23. However, every team would be keen to start off their tournament with a win.
While Warne backed either India or England to lift the trophy, he said that the Aaron Finch-led Australia shouldn’t be taken lightly by any means as they have a lot of match-winners in their squad.
Shane Warne’s predictions shared on Twitter mentioned that Kane Williamson-led New Zealand were also a team to watch out for as they always performed well in ICC events. He also said that Pakistan, the 2009 T20 World Cup winner, and the West Indies, the two times champions, could also spring quite a few surprises.
In his predictions, Warne backed the out-of-form Aussie opener David Warner and England captain Eoin Morgan to perform well in the tournament. Both the batters struggled in the recent IPL clashes in UAE, however, Warne ruled out that fact and suggested people not to be surprised if one out of the two emerges to be player of the tournament.
Australia will open its T20 World Cup campaign against South Africa at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Australia started the warm-ups with 3-wicket win over New Zealand in Abu Dhabi. However, India beat them by eight wickets in their second warm-up game in Dubai.
Before taking the field for the T2o World Cup in UAE, Australia had lost the series’ against each Bangladesh and West Indies by 1-4.
