Bend, but never break.

Boitumelo Thulo, popularly known as Boity, is an acclaimed television personality, rapper, actress, businesswoman and model. Among her many accolades, she was named as one of Forbes Africa's "30 Under 30" for her contribution to the music and entertainment industry.

The glamorous star's perspective on her rise to fame is rooted in a parable passed down to her by her mom, that of the Chinese bamboo tree. Like any plant, it needs nurturing, water, fertile soil, sunshine and a healthy environment in which to grow. In the first four years of its life, there are no visible signs of activity as nothing grows above the soil. Our patience is tested, and we may wonder if our efforts to nurture the plant will ever yield results. Finally, in its fifth year, behold, a miracle! We see growth - and what growth it is! The Chinese bamboo tree grows 90 feet in just six weeks.

Boity resonates with this story deeply as it describes her life and journey. For many years, she felt that her hard work went unnoticed, testing her patience and faith. Then her success shot up exponentially, just like the bamboo tree during its growing season.

Her story is testimony to patience, tenacity and an unwavering ambition to create a long-lasting empire. In the process, she hopes to inspire other young black women to do the same.

"Be like bamboo. The higher you grow, the deeper you bow."- Chinese proverb
