Chennai: A 33-year-old techie from Tiruvallur district has been arrested after he allegedly created his 26-year-old wife’s profile on a matrimonial website, thinking that she would divorce him if she found a ‘better’ life partner through the matchmaking portal.
The accused, identified as S Om Kumar, reportedly wanted to get rid of his wife, also a techie and currently in abroad for work.
After entering wedlock a few years ago, Kumar moved with his wife to a foreign country. The couple developed indifference recently and Om Kumar left his job and returned to his hometown in Thiruvallur district while his wife stayed in the country, said the police.
Recently, Padmanabhan, the father of Kumar’s wife, got multiple phone calls from men who evinced their interest in his daughter’s matrimony profile. The matchmaking portal also contacted Padmanabhan and asked him to pay the fee.
After he filed a complaint, the police launched investigation and found Om Kumar creating the profile.
