Ghazipur Border News, Rakesh tikat turns back

The tents in front of the police barricades on NH-9 under the UP Gate flyover suddenly started being assembled on Thursday. When the tents were removed, news came that farmer leader Rakesh Tikait and other members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) were clearing the way. There was speculation about the end of the strike of the farmers sitting on the dharna on the Delhi border from November 2020.

The removal of the tent meant that the highway at the UP Gate-Ghazipur border was closed because of Delhi Police`s barricades and not because of farmers` protests. Taking this point, farmers are arguing in the Supreme Court during the hearing of the blockade of roads in Delhi.

Tikait, mostly on social media, dismissed the claim that farmers were vacating the protest site. He said that the agitation on the Ghazipur border would continue like this. BKU`s media in-charge Dharmendra Malik said, "No decision has been taken to withdraw the movement."

Earlier it was claimed that the farmers would let the traffic pass by removing the tents. Tikait`s comments earlier in the day fueled this. Rakesh Tikait`s statement came, `We are going to Delhi. We have not blocked the road. We are removing our tents and Delhi Police should also remove their barricades and let people go from here.

Later, the BKU leader claimed that as Diwali is near, the farmers were only cleaning their tents and changing the curtains. He said, "On Diwali, by showing a video of the cleaning being done by the farmers, rumors are being spread that the farmers are leaving the border."

Anyway, removing some tents from NH-9 will not affect the traffic in the area. The camps set up by the protesters on the highway are spread from the border to Khoda Colony. The entire area will have to be cleared for traffic to resume here. The barricades put up by the Delhi Police after the disturbances in the tractor parade on Republic Day will also have to be removed from the border.

Traffic going towards Delhi on NH-9 and on Delhi-Meerut Expressway via UP Gate is closed since last week of November 2020. Traffic was also disrupted from Raj Nagar Extension going towards Delhi via Hindon elevated road. SP (Traffic) Ramanand Kushwaha said that the removal of tents by the farmers did not make any difference to the passengers going from Indirapuram and Noida to Delhi.
