Kenbrell Thompkins, former UC Bearcats and NFL receiver, faces up to 12 years in prison

Kenbrell Thompkins, a former University of Cincinnati Bearcats wide receiver who played parts of three seasons in the National Football League with the New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders and New York Jets, faces up to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday to one count of unauthorized access device fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft.

Thompkins' sentencing - per The Associated Press - is scheduled for Jan. 6.

Thompkins was charged in April by federal indictment, accused of stealing identities to fraudulently obtain coronavirus-related unemployment insurance benefits in California.

Thompkins, 33, began his NFL career with New England in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of UC. He played for the Bearcats in 2011 and 2012.
