New Delhi, Oct 21 (UNI) UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is arriving tomorrow on a three-day visit, and will hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
As part of the visit, Truss will travel to Mumbai on October 23.
She had met the EAM on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on September 21, just days after her appointment, replacing Dominic Raab. At the meeting the two had exchanged views on the developments in Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific, and the EAM had urged for an early resolution of UK’s quarantine regulations for vaccinated Indian travellers.
She had also spoken on the phone with the EAM hours after the UK on October 7 announced withdrawal of the mandatory quarantine on vaccinated Indian travellers.
During the India-UK Virtual Summit between the two Prime Ministers held on May 4, 2021, the bilateral relationship between the two nations was elevated to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The ties have been marked by regular high level exchanges and growing cooperation in diverse areas. Truss’ visit will be an opportunity to review the Roadmap 2030 launched during the Virtual Summit and further deepen the partnership across various sectors like trade, science & technology, innovation, defence, climate, education and health sectors, an official statement said.
Truss is also Minister for Women and Equalities. This is her maiden visit to India. She was in Islamabad in late September for bilateral talks.
She was previously UK’s International Trade Secretary, and had held talks with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on September 13, during which India and the UK agreed on the way forward to launch negotiations on a bilateral Free Trade Agreement.
