Imphal, October 20 2021: Fiction and Poetry Club, Manipur celebrated Manipuri Poetry Day 2021 at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday.

Education minister S Ra-jen and Fiction and Poetry Club president Budhichandra Heisnam attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while Asheilup Imphal president Dilip Mayengbam and Leimarol Khorjeikol Imphal president Kshetrimayum Subadani were present as guests of honour.

Addressing the gathering, minister Rajen said that the government has always high regard for writers, who are playing a major role in promoting the language and literature of the state.

The government is planning to take up welfare measures for the writers, he said and equated the works of the writers to wealth of the future generation.

Mahakabi Anganghal Sheireng Mana-2020 was presented to writer Birendrajit Naorem at the event while Tahir Sajabam's Atiya Nangumna' (poem) and Thabatombi Ngangbam's Punsigee Atiya' (poem) were also released.

MU Manipuri department associate professor Dr Wahengbam Kumari Chanu gave brief reviews on the two books.

The event also had a poetry meet with Birendrajit Naorem in the chair.
