Colerain Township police say a man has been charged with reckless homicide after he told them he mishandled a gun and shot 19-year-old Journee Hicks of Fairfield Township on Wednesday.

Deaariounse Bryant, 19, of Over-the-Rhine, is in the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $250,000 cash bond after being arraigned in Hamilton County Municipal Court on Thursday.

"This complaint is based on (Bryant) admitting to shooting the victim one time, causing her death after he was mishandling a loaded semi-auto handgun," Colerain Det. B. Wethington said in a criminal complaint filed in municipal court.

The Hamilton County Coroner's Office says Hicks died at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and that an autopsy has not been completed.
