Heavy rainfall predicted for Tamilnadu

Chennai: Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are expected to receive heavy rainfall from today. Heavy rains are expected to lash parts of Kerala with thunderstorms and lightning.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an easterly wave is set to hit the south peninsular India, resulting in fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls over Tamilnadu till Saturday.

As per the IMD’s regional met centre in Chennai, the districts of Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari will be in for isolated heavy to very heavy showers.

Meanwhile, Tamilnadu Revenue Minister KKSSR Ramachandran on Wednesday said 39 individuals lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the State during 1-19 October. Tamilnadu recorded 148.5 mm rainfall during the same period, which is 52 per cent above the normal, he said.
