Varanasi: Chandauli police, on Wednesday, busted a
gang involved in cheating army recruitment aspirants and arrested six of its members from Dhanapur. This gang was also on the radar of Jabalpur (MP) police.
SP Chandauli Amit Kumar said that on the inputs regarding presence of kingpin of the gang, who had been booked in a case by Jabalpur police, the joint team of special weapons and tactics (SWAT), surveillance cell and Dhanapur police station police cordoned Chahania-Dhanapur road and intercepted a SUV carrying four imposters in army uniform.
On checking the vehicle, two pistols, forged documents and an army cap was recovered, he said adding, after confirming that the SUV occupants were not army personnel, the police took them under custody for interrogation and seized the SUV. .
The arrested miscreants were identified as kingpin of the gang Ravikant Yadav, Rinku Singh Yadav, Rohit Yadav alias Dhukku, Devendra Srivastava of Chandauli, Vikas Singh alias Mani of Ghazipur and Deepak Yadav alias Pintu of Azamgarh. A motorcycle, two country-made pistols, live cartridges, army uniforms, nine mobile phones, ATM cards, pass books and cheque books of different banks, computer, forged documents and fake stamps were recovered from their possession.
During interrogation Ravikant divulged that he had managed to get recruited in army by unfair means but was outsed from training session during verification process after which he formed a gang and started targeting youths preparing for army recruitment. His gang sought Rs five lakh from each candidate for clearing the written and medical tests of army recruitment process. He had targeted over 20 such aspirants and spent the money collected from them on house, motorcycle and enjoyment, he confessed.
Recently, eight youths were caught during verification process of army recruitment in Jabalpur of which four were his candidates, said Ravikant. All the eight youths were sent to jail after lodging of an FIR with Gorakhpur police station in Jabalpur and a search was launched for Ravikant. Four of his candidates were also caught in Lucknow, he said.
