Jalandhar: In connection with the raid at a city-based consultancy for education and immigration firm, officials of the Income Tax Department remained mute on Wednesday. The premises of Sai Overseas, situated at Sahota Complex, near the bus stand was raided by an I-T team on Monday, which continued till Tuesday. As per sources, the residence of the travel agency’s owner Baljinder Singh Sehgal was also raided. I-T officers boarded four vehicles with J&K number plates and arrived at the immigration firm on Monday morning and unlocked the shutters. The raid was allegedly conducted on the basis of an audio clip of the immigration firm that had gone viral. The viral audio suggested a funding scam carried out by Sai Overseas in connection with educational visa of students. TNS

In-laws booked for cheating

Hoshiarpur: The police have registered a case of cheating and dowry harassment against husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law of a woman. Poonam Saini, a resident of Mohalla Prem Garh, had lodged a complaint with the police that she was married to Gaurav Saini, a resident of Anmol Nagar. At the time of marriage, they had promised that they would take her to Canada after 15 days of marriage. She said after the marriage, the accused allegedly started harassing her by demanding Rs 10 lakh, gold and more dowry from her. The police have registered a case. OC

Two held with stolen vehicles

Hoshiarpur: The Model Town police arrested a person, who was found roaming on a stolen vehicle with a fake registration plate at a naka in the area on Tuesday night. The accused has been identified as Harvinder Singh, a resident of Kotla Nodh Singh. In the second case, on a tip-off, the Sadar police arrested a person from Shergarh village with a stolen bike. The accused has been identified as Randeep Kumar, alias Nini, a resident of Islamabad. OC

Truck driver dies in road mishap

Hoshiarpur: A truck driver was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle here on Tuesday. The Mukerian police have registered a case in this regard. Jarnail Singh, a resident of Chochian Chhedian village in Gurdaspur district, told the police that his son Lovepreet Singh (24) was a truck driver. He was hit by an unidentified vehicle and died near Mukerian. The police have registered a case. OC

One booked for assaulting woman

Hoshiarpur: The Dasuya police have booked a person for abusing and assaulting a woman after entering her house on Tuesday night. A woman of Rampur Haled village told the police that Sham Singh, a resident of her village, entered herhouse forcibly in a drunken state and tore her clothes. When her husband’s friend reached there, he also attacked him with a baseball bat. The police have registered a case against the accused. OC
